I’m Kim and try to help the strays of Mykonos
I’m supporting Sandra Clare and her passionate work for the strays and animals of Mykonos. Without her MAW wouldn’t exist.
If I call a place my home as I do with Mykonos since 2013, I feel also responsible for that place and all living beings there. But we all have to know our responsibility and have to do what we can do to change something for them. Together we can change the life for the animals for good. It’s a lot of work and education needed to change old habits of the locals and teach the next generation to see animals different as they were seen in the past. The laws are on our side now but it’s still a fight.
Below you find an abridged version of my german website to provide you information and to support MAW and what you can do to help us and our animals.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP US
OUR MAP
We work on a map where you can easily find our feeding station, pet shops and vets. With that it’s easy for everyone to find the right place to act and help with own initiative.
Unfortunately we get so many request for adoptions or emergencies that we can’t handle it alone. Don’t forget that we have mostly only Sandra on the island who can do it! So we need everybody’s eyes and hands to help our strays and improve their life.
Contact me if you like to help us and we can speak about the details!
OUR WORK
FEEDING STATIONS
All over the island are feeding stations which are checked daily for fresh water and clean food. Also medical treatment like spot ons or eye creams etc are done on the streets. These stations are also used to drop unwanted kitten there with hope we find a way to save them. Its difficult to find local fosters so thats our chance to have a bit control.
On our virtual map you can find the most of the stations.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Besides the treatments we can give on the street we have a lot of vet tours with animals which are hurt or have chronically medical issues. Sterilizations are also daily happenings to try to find control of the overpopulation of around 30k stray cats or abused animals.
FOSTER CARE
Some cats need foster care out of the streets/feeding stations because they are to weak, need special treatments or are already adopted and are waiting for departure. This care is covered by a weekly fee which vary of the needs. This fee includes food, meds and support for the people who help us here (because they have also transport costs)
We are always looking for people who like to help us here!
EMERGENCIES
Emergencies are often e-mails or calls we got daily where people ask for help. Sometime is just a chat or call for information, but we also got requests to pick up kittens or sick cats to save them. We try our best with a very small team, but here we need local help or the help of the person which found the animal to assist us where they can.
FUNDRAISING
We are all volunteering and donations are our tool to pay our vet bills and the food for our strays. Monthly costs are raising around 10k€ for 65 stations all
Over the island, so each single cent will help us to pay our bills. Bills of hope to save lifes! We are grateful for one time donations as also for a monthly support. Imagine just one euro of each tourist during the season would safe us for the whole year to help.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
A big word with big results. Today social media helps us a lot with free of charge clarification but we have also work with old school flyers, posters or cash boxes - also in form of a modern sticker with QR code. With the social media everybody can help us with telling their own story and experience with the animals of Mykonos. You can find us on Instagram and Facebook: mykonosanimals (official) and mykonosstrays4maw (for this website) and mykonos_cats (for available adoptions).
FINDING HOMES
We try constantly to find homes for our strays. We show them in social media and help with adoptions direct on place if someone lost there heart for a furry friend. We arrange foster care, flight escorts and do all the paper works for traveling and adoptions. We don’t charge our work, only the costs which are needed to bring the animals to you. Check also our Instagram for available cats.

This is Sandra - the heart of MAW
Sandra Clare is the President of MAW, a legal charity that was formed in 2005. Since then the organization has been actively involved in the health and welfare of animals on Mykonos island.
Sandra runs MAW with all her heart and follows the main objectives like feeding, emergency vet care, sterilisations, education and rehoming of abandoned cats and dogs.
Sandra works closely with the Mykonian Mayor and Town Hall who help finance the sterilization & feeding programs and with the islands three local vets who help out as much as they can.
In the last fifteen years, MAW has sterilised and helped tens of thousands of animals and although they mostly help stray cats and dogs MAW also help whenever possible all other animals which need help.

WITHOUT SANDRA
The actual situation shows us what will happen if Sandra isn’t there any longer. As long as we volunteers aren’t on the island also, nobody will do something for the strays.
Locals don’t move and help. Mostly tourists contacting us and are worried about spotted cats or kitten… but also here only a few do more as asking for help. They feed the cats and try to bring them to a vet if they need one.
These actions are essentially to improve the situation for the strays! Sandra is 70 and we don’t know how long she can manage the daily feeding of the stations, catching cats for sterilizations (to stop the flood of kitten) and pick up emergencies which she got from countless calls.
If we volunteers aren’t on the island it’s a one man show! And that has to change!
In the past I asked a lot for help, but now as I see how everything stops if Sandra isn’t available I ask all of you again: please do more as asking for help.
We spent the last years beside the street work to spread awareness of the situation and telling that we can only be successful with a change if we get your help. You are: locals and tourists. Everybody who spotted something what has to change in your mind or by law!
We provide all information you need to help by reading our websites or our story highlights on Instagram.
